Although people are most afraid of HIV/AIDS, they also often forget about having safe sex.

So how can I prevent any STD?

Well, although this is a simple question, most people won’t be happy with the answer – Stop having sex! Well, it really is the “best” way to prevent any STD, including the Blue Waffles Disease. However, there are certain tips for those who are sexually active and have no intention to listen to the fist advice.

Some of the ways to prevent various sexually transmitted disease and infections are:

  • Have sex with only one (tested and healthy) partner. The same applies for your partner, too.
  • The lower the number of sexual partners is, the lower the chances of experiencing STD or STI symptoms.
  • If you or your partner have or had other partners, it is wise to get tested before decide to have sex.
  • Use latex condoms properly and at all occasions.
  • Don’t use spermicides. Their use can cause vaginal irritation and damage of the vaginal tissue, making it more prone to various infections.
  • Get tested for STDs and STIs at least once a year or more often. STD tests won’t prevent any STD, but will help you discover a potential disease or infection in its early stage, where the chances for successful treatment are the highest.
  • In case you or your partner has some STDs caused by bacteria, stop having sex until you finish with the treatment and the results of a new test are negative.
  • Don’t try to notice any STD symptoms in your partner. Many sexually transmitted diseases are “silent”, which means that the symptoms don’t appear in the early stages of the disease or infection.
  • It is recommended for you and your partner to be honest about your sexual past. Speak freely about any STDs or STIs, including HIV/AIDS.
  • Wash before and after sexual intercourse, but don’t overdo it.

If you follow the tips given above, the chances of experiencing any STD symptoms are greatly reduced.
